    History

Joomla was created by a company in Australia in 2001 and was originally released in August of 2005. It received it’s first major revision in 2008 and became an international CMS with support for right-to-left languages.

    Requirements

To use Joomla 4.x, you would need PHP Software 7.2.5 minimum, either MySQL or PostgreSQL, and at least one of the supported Web Servers, Apache, Nginx, or Microsoft IIS

    Hosted or Self-Hosted

Joomla is a Self-Hosted CMS so the user could either seek out a separate Web hosting service or get the needed software for self-hosting directly through Joomla.org.

    Cost

Joomla is open-source and completely free for publishing Web content.

    User Base

Of the nearly 2 billion websites around the world, Joomla supports 3% of them. Interestingly, although it pales in comparison to WordPress.org, it has won 18 awards as of 2023, including the CMS Critic People’s Choice Award for Best Free CMS for eight straight years.
