    History

    Wix was founded in 2006 by developers in Israel and headquartered in TelAviv. By 2010 it had 3.5 million users and raised $10 million (US) by 2010.

    Requirements

    Since there aren’t any options for self-hosting, there aren’t any server requirements, however, with the drag-and-drop functions within the Wix platform, it is recommended that a user keep their browsers up-to-date, clear your browser’s cashe an cookies as needed, and be sure your computer is has a minimum of 2 GB of RAM and a processor speed of 2 GHz.

    Hosted or Self-Hosted

    Wix is an all-in-one hosted website platform. They provide the hosting and do not offer self-hosting to their users.

    Cost

    There are several plans to chose from through Wix including free use. If using the free version, the user may not be able to create a custom domain name and ads will appear on every page. Of their paid plans, they range from $16/month (Light) to $159/month (Business Elite). There is also an “Enterprise” version which begins at $500/month.

    There are more than 8.5 million live Wix websites around the world; 2.5% of all websites globally.
