Website Review of GFCGlobal.org
GCFGlobal (Goodwill Community Foundation Global) is a program developed and supported by the Goodwill Community Foundation and Goodwill Industries of Eastern North Carolina Inc. The website is a free educational portal to a great number of resources. I became familiar with this website when taking the “Office Professional’s Course” through “Forward Service Corporation” last fall. The lessons and interactive exercises found on this website encompass a large portion of the rigorous curriculum for that particular program. I am impressed at the amount of information inside this website, and how most of these lessons have interactive audio and videos tutorials along with downloadable worksheets; all for FREE! You can find lessons from, improving your work skills, to learning MS Office; computer and internet skills; career planning, resume writing, and networking; core skills like math, reading, and grammar; they even offer freelance and creative work skills; all of these are just a small glimpse of what they have to offer anyone hungry to learn. You can also receive a Certificate of Completion so long as you have a registered account; all for free.
Considering how much is available on this website, it is laid out with a very simple format. It is easy for anyone to decide what they want to learn, click on the topic, start at the top, and scroll down from there. Once you have finished a “chapter” and at the bottom of the screen, you can simply click the “continue” button to move onto the next chapter. When you have completed the lesson, there is a quiz that you can take by using an interactive, multiple-choice form, followed by a submit button. The videos are embedded from the GCFLearnFree.org YouTube Channel which makes these video lessons available to anyone with an internet connection; eliminating any need for third party plug-ins like Flash. They do have a mention on their FAQs that speaks about Flash being phased out, changes being made to address this, and what a user can do if they are having trouble using their site. As far as I can see from my browser (Chrome on a Mac), everything is perfectly operational. This is definitely a site that I would recommend checking out.
