I could get really lost in here... and as I continue to become more comfortable with this process, I just might use this website as a continual Web Design learning tool. Out of all the areas that stuck out to me, I have to choose the inspiration page, namely, the color swatches. At first glance, they appear to be images inserted from a similar color generator, like the ones available through Adobe, but then upon inspection, I see that she coded those herself! How FUN! It was just today that Robert taught me how to use the color picker in the browser so I can see how she did it using those tools. It appears that she chose colors from the corresponding, inserted images. With a little CSS trick of a border radius on an <li>, little color swatch circles were created!
User Interface - UI
The user interface for this website is set up really great. It is very easy to know exactly where you are and where you are going. The buttons, even though they are eclectic throughout the site, they are responsive, and clear. With the amount of content in this website, the mapping is laid out really well. I could get lost in here, without ever really getting lost.
User Experience - UX
I never thought a website could make me gasp in excitement but this one really surprised me. It is enjoyably responsive and fun. Of course, as a graphic designer, I love the content in general, and there is a lot of great content here, but the way it is presented, really brings everything to life. The tutorial pages, even though they are not as animated, the content is laid out in a way which is easy to use and engaging. The inspiration pages are bright and beautiful which I really enjoy.
Summary
I cannot tell you how much I love this website! It is a graphic designer's dream, one that I have bookmarked and intend to read over thoroughly. The tutoral section alone is full of projects and learning opportunities that have me anxiously waiting for the day I will have time to play around in here. Now that I am learning Web Design too, this website brings with it a deeper appreciation for the skills and talent of Veerle Duoh, a fantastic designer! Over the top of everything else, which is already great, her love for teaching her skills to others, makes me really like this person. Thank you for putting this into the curriculum!
